Growing up as a kid, Vishunu our director, always felt that he couldn't click with his Indian counterparts. The Tamil language to him was foreign to him because it didn't understand it and it intimidated him because he felt that Indian people from his childhood sounded harsh when they spoke in Tamil. Constantly favouring Western influences over his own culture, developing bias away from Indian culture. It wasn't until in his adolescenes years, looking back, he realises that he's been misunderstood a lot of the Indian culture; his culture.

'MY PATTI' is a culmination of wanting to reflect an innocent story of Praveen, a 13-year old Indian boy, who wants to make a documentary of his grandmother but a language barrier is sandwiched between Praveen participating in a storytelling competition and his Tamil-only-speaking grandmother.

BUDGET BREAKDOWN

Unless you want our film to look like that mundane stuff you see on a certain local TV network (which we are sure we are not trying to replicate), do understand besides casting, cinematography, production design and editing all come in to play in making a good story, great. To highlight, most of our budget will go into;

1. CASTING

With the right actors, not only is half of the director's work is done, maybe the audience won't cringe so hard! Because let's face it, who wants to see a movie with actors that can't act for sh*t! 

2. EQUIPMENT

Cameras are nothing without lighting. Suck. It. Oblivious. Cinematographers. If you lit your actors right, maybe you'll be more immeresed with the film. Though we're not planning to rent out Hollywood-standard camera like ARRIs or REDs, we still definitely need grip/lighting equipments as well as camera accessories in assisting in executing shots.

3. PRODUCTION DESIGN

Did we mention we're filming a story about an Indian kid? Set in an Indian household? With a very traditional Indian grandmother? We need all the visual aids, subtle and obvious, in convincing you, the places, the clothing, the items, that exist in the world of this short film, is true to the nature of the story.
